Why Sawa

Sawa means together in Arabic.

Being sawa holds stories told in the old country, laughs shared across the table, the energy in the streets, and sayings that can’t always be translated to English.

I wanted to create a space where cultures come together in the form of comfort.

Where it’s easy to feel your roots being loudly represented on your skin.

To wear the nods and winks that others in our communities just get.

And have our clothes embrace the inside jokes and laughable elements of those roots.

Some won’t get it. But some will.

Instead of hiding our expressions, customs, and traditions, let’s rep them and let’s do it Sawa.
